6 Tips to Handle Terrible Online Reviews

musttipstricks.blogspot.com 6 Tips to Handle Terrible Online Reviews

I wanted to eviscerate the reviewer. After I worked patiently on this eBook he trashed it. Even worse, other Amazon customers agreed with his horrible review.

What would that do to my online reputation?

After experiencing this rollercoaster like cycle of wild emotions more than a few times in my online career I finally developed a neat little system for handling online negative reviews.

How to Handle Terrible Online Reviews

I have written and self-published 126 eBooks.

You can imagine how more than a few boo birds have crept in and left some nasty big old deposits on both my eBooks and audiobooks in the form of nasty reviews.

But I’m cool with seeing bad reviews now.

The terror of dealing with nasty reviews may even prevent you from creating an eBook, product or service, which would be a huge mistake.

Handle negative online reviews gracefully.

Follow these 6 tips.

1: Observe Your Feelings (Honestly)

Honestly observe your feelings the moment you read a negative online review.
If you feel:
  1. Angry
  2. Depressed
  3. Sad
  4. Enraged
  5. Embarrassed
  6. Worthless
  7. Like a fraud
…consider sending the reviewer flowers.

These seemingly nasty folks did you a service, revealing to you exactly what you need to clear out to grow more quickly.

I had some serious issues with loving and accepting myself – see #5 – before embracing a steady number of wicked online reviews.

Sticking around for the sting does stink but you’ll grow like a weed by facing, embracing and releasing these emotions.

2: AATNAY

All About Them. Not About You. Remind yourself of this truth. Negative reviewers perceive your product or service through dark-colored glasses. Their perception has nothing to do with your offering. Do not take nasty reviews personally. Some see the glass half empty. Some see the glass half full.

Others see the glass as a dangerous weapon that can slit someone’s throat after it’s shattered. Maybe these folks are having a terrible day or terrible life. Either way the review is all about them and has nothing to do with you.

3: Dissect for Truth Bombs (Separate Wheat from the Chaff)

Just because someone seems to be a jerk does not mean they’re lying.

I’ve experienced a few enlightening, “aha” moments after dissecting the review, removing the emotionally-charged sting to see helpful feedback.

From being told that my blog looks like dooky to other choice negative opinions I simply saw how some unclear folks lacked the tact and social graces to offer feedback wrapped with a pretty little pink bow.

Some seemingly boorish morons offer golden nuggets of helpful information – once in awhile – if you choose not to ignore the reviews.

Gary Vaynerchuk does a fine job fielding all manner of feedback in a relaxed, balanced, peaceful way.

He mines the truth/deeper feedback from the sometimes nasty packaging with ease.

Follow his social streams and read reviews of his Amazon eBooks.

See how this master operates.

4: Be Compassionate (Unhappy, Afraid People Post Negative Reviews)

No happy, positive, loving person devotes a second of their time to pointing out what’s wrong with your eBook or online course.

Only unhappy people – or people having a super low energy moment – deliberately take the time to post a negative review online.

Critics are almost always scared, unclear folks who hide behind anonymity to take pot shots at you.

I have never read a snide 1 to 3 star review of my eBooks on Amazon connected to a real name.

Afraid, scared people hide behind generic user names to criticize bold, confident people.

Have empathy for these hurting souls versus trying to skewer them.

5: If it *Still* Stings…..

…practice loving and accepting yourself more each day.

If someone cheeses you off, or humiliates you, or embarrasses you, the reactive feelings indicate a lack of self love and acceptance.

Consider using EFT tapping to root out any negative energies related to loving and accepting yourself.

6: Never Fight, Force or Rally the Troops for a Cyber Public Execution

Resist urges to fight your critics, to force your views on critics or to rally your tribe to assault these folks in cyber fashion, with rapid fire emails and social media slayings, if you actually track these folks down.

This only looks bad for you and your brand.
Let the critics go.
Let them be.
Carry on, ignoring the lower energies to make room for more loving supporters who offer honest, tactful, high energy feedback to move into your life.
