SEO Using Heading Tags
As we all know, heading tags are very important in every web document to make the structure of the content. By using these Heading tags, we can differentiate between our web page document. These Headings tags are not only used to bold or large the text.
Important Note: I have mentioned two very common mistakes in heading tags by blog writers. Don’t miss to grab that information.
Meanings of Heading Tags
Heading Tags are very well-described by W3Schools that:
<h1> to <h6> tags are used to define Heading on a web document.
“According to W3Schools – <h1> </h1> is the first heading in the heading tags line which is very critical for any web article or content and <h6></h6> is the last important and smallest heading that has very less importance in web material as compared to any other heading tags.”
Heading tags that are defined by W3Schools:
<h1>any text here</h1>
<h2> any text here </h2>
<h3> any text here </h3>
<h4> any text here </h4>
<h5> any text here </h5>
<h6> any text here </h6>
H1 tag is mostly used for main heading of the document and followed by further h2, h3 and so on. The h1 tag is largest and boldest one whereas the smallest font size tag is h6.
Don’t confuse and stop thinking that heading tags are only used for formatting of the web articles and documents, and use for categorization of web page document.
Heading tags come with many attributes that are used to make a website/blog user-friendly but search Engines take these headings to index the contend to web document and also website/blog posts.
In simple words, you can say that these are the tags used to mention the structure of the document.
Use of Heading Tags in SEO
There are some more things that you should know before using the Heading tags from the web designing part of view.
Heading Tags purpose
The biggest and main purpose of using Heading Tags is to categorized your web content with different type of heading tags so the design of your website become more user-friendly for the user and they can directly get what they want by just reading the sub-heading.
Now we all know that the H1 tag is biggest and most important tag so whenever you are going to use it for your web content heading, try to make it in a way in which people get the idea of your whole article by just reading your Heading. So whenever you use H1 tag, try to describe all the information of your article in one single heading line.
Heading Tags in Keywords
Keywords are the most important and first priority for any SEO expert. In this matter, we first have to find the best keyword according to our topic and the web page and then break this keyword and categorized them into focus keyword (which is the most important keyword), primary keyword, secondary and then last tertiary keyword. Focus keyword is always used for the whole webpage and it’s better to add your focus keyword into the title of your post, h1 tag and in meta tags of your webpage.
It's important and recommended that h1 tag is only used once in a webpage, because h1 tag is always like a heading of the newspaper and other content of the webpage should be structured with other heading tags. Using of other heading tags (subheadings) depend on how your content is written.
Use of H1 Tag in Latest HTML5
In old versions of HTML, designers and writers were allowed to use H1 tag only once in per web document and what they do at that time, they just use h1 to wrap their business logo on their web page because wrapping business logo with H1 tag is very important for any web business page, but at that time people were bound to start their headings with h2 tag.
But thanks to updated version of HTML, which allow us to use h1 tag in per web document more than once according to the requirements of the designer.
Important Note:
Well, as we all know that heading tags are very important for On page SEO of your webpage content. One mistake is very common between new bloggers that the excessive use of H2 and H3 tags and at the same time some bloggers are using h3 tags at the place of h2 tag.
